Palermo to Catania Tour

Arrive independently to the hotel in the charming city of Palermo. Overnight at Mercure Palermo Centro 4*/ Ibis Styles Palermo Cristal 4* or similar.

After breakfast departure to visit Monreale, with its impressive Arab-Norman Cathedral and stunning Cloister. Return to Palermo. This city preserves monuments of the Arab-Norman period, including the beautiful Cathedral, the fascinating Byzantine Church of the Martorana and the Palatine Chapel. Admire the Cappella Palatina, located inside the Palazzo dei Normanni. Stop for a typical Sicilian lunch in a local restaurant. The afternoon will be dedicated to a pleasant walk in the historic centre of Palermo. See the Teatro Massimo and the fountain in Pretoria Square, a Renaissance monument of great importance. Morning departure to Cefalu, a beautiful medieval maritime village with its Norman Cathedral. Time at leisure to visit the famous Mandralisca Museum. Lunch stop in a local restaurant. Departure for Catania, located at the foot of Mount Etna. The old town is characterized by late-baroque architecture built with the use of lava stone. Cross Duomo Square, & admire the Cathedral and the Elephant of lava stone, symbol of the city. Continue to University Square, and Via dei Crociferi, the heaart of the Baroque in Catania. Admire splendid palaces and churches, including the S. Benedict Monastery. Stop in a historic bar to enjoy one of the local specialities: granita & brioche. This morning, after a short visit of the famous “pescheria” in Catania, head to UNESCO sight Mount Etna, the highest (c. 3350m) volcano in Europe nowadays Unesco World Heritage Site. Approach Rifugio Sapienza. Reach the “Crateri Silvestri”, small volcanic cones, surrounded by ancient lava flows. During the tour, there will be the opportunity for a tasting of artisanal honey and other local products. Proceeding on and departure for Taormina. Lunch in a restaurant in the old town. Then visit the fascinating Greco-Roman Theatre which offers a breathtaking view of the sea and Mount Etna. Free time to explore the centre of Taormina. Back in Catania for dinner on own and overnight in hotel Principe Hotel 4* or similar. (B, L)
