Visit the ancient ruins of the provincial town of Jerash and explore one of the best preserved Greco-Roman towns outside of Europe. Feel the history come alive in the original Roman Hippodrome. After lunch head back to Amman, the capital and largest city of Jordan, for a panoramic tour of the city. It is the country’s political, cultural and commercial centre and one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. See how the ancient structures of the Amphitheatre and citadel mix with modern life. (B, L, D)

Today involves a trip into the desert to see the famous Desert castles. Visit three of the best including Qasr Kharana, an interesting example of early Islamic Architecture; Qasr Amra, the best-known of the desert castles located in present-day eastern Jordan built in the 8th Century BC; and Qasr Azraq, the ‘Blue Fortress’ built by Romans under the rule of Diocletian and is a large fortress in the area. Drive to Amman for overnight. (B, L, D)

Drive to Madaba, the city of mosaics and see the amazing 6th century mosaic map of Jerusalem found in the local church. Continue to Mt Nebo, mentioned in the Bible as the place where Moses was granted a view of the Promised Land that he would never enter. The view from the summit provides a panorama of the Holyland and to the north. Short stop at Kerak Castle, a dark maze of stone-vaulted halls and endless passageways. Continue to Petra for overnight. After breakfast depart for a fascinating tour of the ancient and magical city of Petra, an Arabian historical and archaeological city that is famous for its rockcut architecture and water conduit system. Experience the awe as you turn the corner to see the Treasury, one of the most recognisable façade’s in the world. See the immense façades and structures of the Temple of the Winged Lions, and amphitheatre. (B, L, D)

Morning free in Petra. Later in the afternoon drive to Wadi Rum for a unique 4 wheel drive through the amazing desert landscape. Also known as The Valley of the Moon, Wadi Rum is a valley cut into the sandstone and granite rock in southern Jordan 60 km to the east of Aqaba; it is the largest wadi in Jordan. Spend the night in traditional camp in a tent just outside the national park. Enjoy your night gazing at the stars and watching traditional Bedouin performance around the campfire. (B, L, D)

Depart Wadi Rum after breakfast for the Dead Sea. Rest of the day at leisure to relax in the gently lapping waters and be amazed that you can’t sink and try the well known healing powers of the minerals found on the sea’s muddy floor. Enjoy your dinner gazing at the spectacular sunset. (B)

After breakfast, transfer to Amman airport. (B)
