Peloponnese Discovery - Private Tour

Morning pick up from your hotel to depart for the Corinth Canal that cuts through the narrow Isthmus of Corinth and separates the Peloponnese from the Greek mainland. After the short stop, continue to Epidaurus and visit the ancient theatre, possibly the most beautiful and best preserved of its kind. It was built in the 4th century BC and, due to its excellent acoustics and condition, it is still used today. Proceed to Nafplion with its Venitian fortress of Palamidi and the islet of Bourtzi. Overnight at Ippolity Hotel,  or similar.

This morning, drive through the plains of Argos to Mycenae. Visit the archaeological site of the tomb of Agamemnon. Also known as the Treasury of Atreus is an impressive tholos tomb on the Panagitsa Hill, constructed around 1250 BC. From there head towards Nemea, an ancient site in the northeastern part of the Peloponnese for some wine tasting at the famous Skouras winery. Free time for lunch before heading back to Nafplion to enjoy the afternoon at leisure at this picturesque town. (B)

After breakfast, depart for Mystras, one of the most unique and picturesque sites of Greece. Mystras was built as an amphitheatre around the fortress erected in 1249. Reconquered by the Byzantines, then occupied by the Turks and the Venetians, the city was abandoned in 1832, leaving only the breathtaking medieval ruins standing in a beautiful landscape. Admire this UNESCO site and its fascinating Byzantine churches built on different levels. Continue to Sparta for a short stop before making your way to Monemvasia, a town located on a small island off the east coast of the Peloponnese. The island is linked to the mainland by a short casuseway,  200  metres in length. Upon arrival, enjoy some free time to explore. Overnight in Monemvasia. Alkinoi Hotel & Spa or similar hotel in Monemvasia. (B)

Follow the south coast of Peloponnese and visit Diros Caves. The magic of the colour and beautiful shapes formed by the stalactites and stalagmites makes a unique spectacle. The excursion through these underground waterways will be etched in your mind forever. After a 40 minute tour of the caves, continue to Kalamata via Kardamili ,a small picturesque town by the sea. It is one of the seven cities offered by Agamemnon to Achilleas as a condition to rejoin the flight during the Trojan War. Here you will find the church of St Spyridon, the tombs of the Dioskouri, Castor and Pollux and the old customs house in St. John’s harbour. Overnight in Kalamata. Garden City Resort or similar hotel . (B)

Today will be  a trip to remember, with the first stop at Pylos, home to the Old Navaroino castle, the fortress, the ancient Aqueduct and Nestors Palace. From Pylos head to Methoni , a beautiful beach area and home to Methoni castle. Enjoy a stop for lunch in the town of Foinikounta. Marvel at the castle of Koroni which dominates Akritas cape, on the southern edge of the Messinian Gulf. It is one of the finest examples of Venetian fortress architecture and among the few of its kind to encompass houses and churches. It was built by the Venetians in the 13th century and revamped by the Ottomans int he 16th century. Return to  Kalamata for overnight. (B)

Depart for Olympia and visit the archaeological site known as the home of the first Olympic games.  View the Sanctuary of Zeus, the Olympic stadium and the museum. This afternoon, relax at the hotel pool and enjoy  overnight Olympion Asty or similar hotel in Olympia . (B) 

After breakfast, depart for Athens where you will be dropped at your hotel or Athens airport. (B)
